So, basically both are the same except that Safari comes with two decades old legacy to its name. As a matter of fact, both have same variants too.
Both comes with a 2 L turbocharged Kryotec engine with 1956 cc displacement; that can produce torque of 350 Nm. You can choose between 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. But since Safari has a high seating capacity, you would look down the engine. Besides drive quality wise we have Safari as 4×4 terrain cruiser. Now that it doesn’t have off-road wheel drive system is a sentimental hindrance.
When it comes to features, Safari has probably a dozen more than Harrier. The main standout is its space and comfort for the riders. Safari’s elevated roof top gives amicable headroom for 3rd rows seaters. 60:40 split, 4 way adjustable seats, dual tone interiors, mood lights add a pleasant appeal to the SUV. The instrument bar has readings of average speed, gear and shift indicator.
Apart, Safari gives disc brakes for all the four wheels which in turn leads to better driving experience. Being heavier than the Harrier, Safari manages really well to give great comfort be it the speed and traction it offers on par with light weight competitors. It further goes to proves it off-road capability as well. There is wet/rough modes and Safari does terrain through jungles and unfinished roads as well. However, one cannot expect it to be like its sturdy ancestor. Safari is a true family car. The drive experience gives it an edge over Harrier. Although you may feel the heaviness of the vehicle sometimes.
Two things that Harrier has won over Safari are: boot space and price. Talking about boot space Safari offers a slim 73 if it attains a maximum seating capacity, fold the 3rd seats it gives you around 447 liters. Harrier directly gives you 425 liters. Coming the pricing, one may feel that Safari is little over priced since both are mostly the same. all the variants of Safari are higher than Harrier by Rs 70K – Rs 135K. Is the few decors worth that money would be a question that is up to the customers to get confused with.
Both are the same. We would recommend it to choose as per your needs. If price is a matter of concern, you can choose harrier which shall give your family a worthy and reliable option. If you want comfort and extra-seats then choose the New Safari.
