INTRODUCTION
The Tigor by Tata Motors is a compact sub 4-meter sedan. The Tigor is the sedan version of the Tiago and will make its place below Tata Zest. Tata Motors calls it a Styleback, mainly due to the unique fastback-like rear-end design.
The Tigor is also built of the Impact design platform by Tata Motors. The front fascia of the Tigor a new chrome-tipped honeycomb grille and blacked-out projector headlamps. The side profile features a set of new larger wheels with diamond-cut alloys, an angular quarter-glass section and a more slanting C-Pillar. The prominent shoulder line running along the extended boot, which the carmaker calls the “Slingshot Design”. At the rear, the long high mounted stop lamp, contemporary tail lamp design, along with a sharp boot lid and overall creases across the rear section, makes for an eye-catching design.
The inside of the Tigor resembles with that of the Tiago. The dash looks premium with the fish-skin texture, along with a new touchscreen infotainment system and auto air-conditioner. Apart from the glove box – which is quite large, the other 24 storage spaces (which Tata claims) are either too small or too slim. The front row seats are softly cushioned and offer ample head/shoulder /leg room. The rear row, too, is quite comfortable but for long journeys the seats seem to be a bit firm, but offer ample head room.
The Tigor will be available in both diesel and petrol trims.
The 1.0L 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine churns out 71ps of maximum power and a peak torque of 110Nm, and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. The petrol trim is powered by an all-aluminum 1.2L 3-cylinder motor that produces 86Ps of power and a peak torque of 114Nm, and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Tigor is offered with two driving modes, namely Eco and City.
The ride quality in the Tigor is on the firmer side at low speeds, and as the car picks up speed, the suspension silently dampens large undulations and harsh bumps with ease. The Tigor has a certain roll at cornering, but the brakes do a fairly good job in stopping the vehicle under hard braking conditions.
Tata Motors has loaded thee Tigor with features, which include a rear view camera with rear parking sensors, a new touchscreen display for the ConnectNeXT infotainment system that is compatible with Android’s ConnectNeXT app which uses its own maps for navigation. There are eight speakers, AUX, USB, Bluetooth capability, steering mounted controls, all-four power windows with driver’s side auto-down, electric mirrors and tilt steering.
On the safety front, the car Tigor features ABS with EBD as standard, dual front airbags, fog lamps and a rear defogger.
The feature-rich Tata Tigor has a premium feel to it with comfortable seats, and spacious cabin with adequate head/shoulder/leg room for all occupants, along with a spacious boot. The Tigor is the perfect car for someone who is looking for a value-for money car.

Need Improvement
When buying a new car in general one must look for things like body panels that are out of line, or load bearing beams that seem to have been damaged. The next thing to check whether the paint is original or it has been repainted, a quick check under concealed plastic panels is a great way to check for unmatched paint. Another thing to check for is underbody rust in humid or sea adjacent areas.
A good way to check if the car has been rear-ended is by checking the boot. Flip open the spare wheel cover and remove the wheel completely. If the car was repaired after an accident the floor will have visible signs as the surface wouldn’t be smooth as it would in an undamaged car.
In the end, always remember to check for complete documentation including service records. Also, do check with the insurance company for any past claims, which will make you aware of the accidents the car has been involved in. Last but not the least, get the car checked from a trusted workshop before closing the deal.
