INTRODUCTION
Mercedes’ AMG range has swollen concretely putting forth a wide choice before customers who long for performance oriented luxury cars. Slipping in comfortably in the AMG division is the successor to the SLS AMG dubbed ‘ AMG GT S’ which has been endowed with splendorous looks and hand built mighty V8 engine supplying energy to the vehicle. Apart from the fact that it has been built in house at the Mercedes AMG unit, what makes the besotting vehicle special is the magnificent cabin that appears even better than that of the predecessor. Power is developed in abundance which in directly reciprocated in the performance and handling and the acceleration on offer may put rivals to shame.
Although, it may not be as extravagant as SLS AMG, but the relatively smaller and evidently less aggressive AMG GT S has it all to give a tough fight to competition in the arena. Luxury doesn’t come for a small price and this one falls in the same category, Mercedes AMG GT S price in India is a jaw dropping amount that is certainly not affordable by the upper middle class, hence the ultra uber vehicle is limited to the elite luxury conscious class in India.
EXTERIOR
Design is its highest talking point and why not as it won the Red Dot Award for the innovative design. Bonnet is long and wide, marked by the sculpted wheel arches that penetrate into the edged of the engine hood. Exterior styling isn’t very elaborate and that is what makes it even more classy and interesting. Bonnet gets subtle lines, up front, the large black radiator grille with chrome treated Mercedes emblem and sleek chrome line running across the grille appears elegant. Air intakes are large too, adding aggression to the front profile. The lower grille is also finished in black. Coming to the LED head lamps, these have been carved intricately; it features a couple of elements that looks upmarket.
The bonnet is so long that the windscreen appears short; the all black wing mirrors go well with the black roof. Side profile is chic, all thanks to the large black finished 19 inch wheels in front and 20 inch wheels at rear. Rear gets extremely lean LED tail lamps, Lift-back style trunk lid, dual chrome tail pipes, reflectors and the roof cascades beautifully into the rear. Window frame is petite and curvy featuring black outlining. Yet another interesting fact is that chrome work is minimal, instead the vehicle gets more of black finishing that for some reason looks posh.
INTERIOR
Cabin offers space to seat two occupants, interior styling is done tastefully, use of materials like premium leather, alcantra, metal and carbon fibre classes up the cabin. This is unlike other AMG cabins that are styled in typical Mercedes fashion; thankfully, AMG GT S gets a far better and plusher cabin than other siblings.
Seats are snug, placed at the right height to provide a comfortable view beyond the long bonnet. Visibility from rear is not poor, on the feature front, the sportscar gets a number of equipment such as launch control, sports seats with heated function, Mercdes’ COMAND infotainment system along with a floating display and Burmester sound system with eight speakers.
ENGINE & PERFORMANCE
Driving the beast is a humongous 4.0 litre, twin-turbo, V8 engine with front end mounted layout. The engine is placed behind the front axle and the seven-speed dual clutch transmission is located between the rear wheels. Power generated by the V8 engine is massive at 503 Bhp. Engine sprints to 100 kmph from rest within 3.8 seconds. Mercedes’ drive mode selector comes with five driving modes namely- Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race and Individual.
Fuel economy is something that one does not look up to when you talk about a luxury sportscar. As hinted, the sports car delivers meagre fuel economy.
Performance is something AMG models are known for, the engine supplies power in abundance. Engine is composed and steering is razor sharp and highly responsive, the sportscar can be driven around with ease which goes against its huge posture.
BRAKING AND SAFETY
Carbon ceramic brakes are available as optional fare, safety fitments such as stability control, adjustable dampers, ESC and eight airbags are employed in the vehicle.
CONCLUSION
It is a beautiful looking car that has won accolades for its design; cabin is lavish and snug, embedded with some avant-garde features. Engine is massive with robust power delivery which reflects in its performance. However, the hefty price tag confines it to elite class.

Need Improvement
When buying a new car in general one must look for things like body panels that are out of line, or load bearing beams that seem to have been damaged. The next thing to check whether the paint is original or it has been repainted, a quick check under concealed plastic panels is a great way to check for unmatched paint. Another thing to check for is underbody rust in humid or sea adjacent areas.
A good way to check if the car has been rear-ended is by checking the boot. Flip open the spare wheel cover and remove the wheel completely. If the car was repaired after an accident the floor will have visible signs as the surface wouldn’t be smooth as it would in an undamaged car.
In the end, always remember to check for complete documentation including service records. Also, do check with the insurance company for any past claims, which will make you aware of the accidents the car has been involved in. Last but not the least, get the car checked from a trusted workshop before closing the deal.
