INTRODUCTION
The Vitara Brezza is Maruti Suzuki’s sub-compact SUV, which is under 4m length and competes with Mahindra TUV 300 and Ford Eco Sport. This car is more of a crossover than an actual SUV.
Maruti Suzuki is one such manufacturer who has had many first achievements to its credit. But somehow when it comes to SUV’s, they have had mixed results to this extent that until recently the home grown automaker played the waiting game in the highly lucrative compact SUV segment. Thus Maruti Vitara Brezza is totally inspired, conceptualized and built in India under the supervision of C V Raman – Executive Director Engineering Maruti Suzuki. One of the most awaited compact SUV’s to be received in the Indian market the Vitara Brezza offers looks along with functionality
The front fascia of the Vitara Brezza features a slim, chrome finished honeycomb merging with the headlamps, a big bumper with fog lamps and LEDs with DRLs. The raised hood, wider air in-take and the presence of a skid plate, give it the SUV look.
The side profile looks stunning with the dual tone shade, precise styling, the plastic cladding on the lower half of the car, the aggressive shoulder lines, ORVMs with turn indicators and the 16-inch alloys. Provided, only the top-end variant gets 16-inch wheels with 215/60 R16 alloys and the other variants get 205/60 R16 alloys.
The floating roof design and the dual tone paint makes the car stand out. But the dual tone is only available in the top-end variant. The rear of the car features a 2 piece LED tail-lamp cluster and a dual tone bumper with reflector inserts.
The interiors are subtle. The dashboard is Baleno-like, but with slight changes with the infotainment system and the AC vents are powerful too. The cabin space is good with lots of storage spaces. The dash features a cockpit light instrument cluster with mood lighting and the steering wheel is mounted with controls. It also features a SMARTPLAY infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and in-built navigation.
There is ample leg, shoulder and head-room in both the rows. The boot space is quite good. The seat upholstery is fabric but for long distances, the seats are not good enough.
The Vitara Brezza also misses certain features like – bi-xenon headlamps, leather covered steering and auto-dimming IRVM ? than the Baleno, which is cheaper. And even the build quality of EcoSport is better than the Brezza.
The Vitara Brezza is powered by a 1.3L DDiS diesel engine which produces 90ps of maximum power and a peak torque of 200Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gear box. The engine is fuel efficient as well.
Another shortcoming being, the Brezza is only offered in diesel MT variant and there is no option for petrol or AT variant, as of now.
The ride of the Brezza is quite good because of the well-mannered suspension and the 198mm of ground clearance.
The Brezza comes equipped with a driver airbag as standard. Passenger air bag and ABSS with EBD are available on option. Also the car is built on Suzuki’s TECT platform.
Airbags and other safety features used to be a thing of luxury, but recent government regulations have compelled automakers to make even entry level hatchbacks safer. And with Global NCAP’s efforts for safety, carmakers are striving to make cars that rank high in the context of their ability to keep passengers safe. But does this sense of safety come with a hefty price tag? Not always.
Here are the top five Global NCAP certified safe cars that will not burn a hole in your pocket.
Apart from a few shortcomings, the Vitara Brezza is worth a buy due to its unique dual tone design layout, it being under 4m length and the overall design and performance.

Need Improvement
When buying a new car in general one must look for things like body panels that are out of line, or load bearing beams that seem to have been damaged. The next thing to check whether the paint is original or it has been repainted, a quick check under concealed plastic panels is a great way to check for unmatched paint. Another thing to check for is underbody rust in humid or sea adjacent areas.
A good way to check if the car has been rear-ended is by checking the boot. Flip open the spare wheel cover and remove the wheel completely. If the car was repaired after an accident the floor will have visible signs as the surface wouldn’t be smooth as it would in an undamaged car.
In the end, always remember to check for complete documentation including service records. Also, do check with the insurance company for any past claims, which will make you aware of the accidents the car has been involved in. Last but not the least, get the car checked from a trusted workshop before closing the deal.
