INTRODUCTION
Maruti S-Presso is the latest launch from the automotive giant Maruti Suzuki. The micro SUV is based on the Maruti’s Future S Concept which was unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo. Interestingly, the concept is built on the Maruti’s all-new design tenet and acts as a precursor to the future Maruti cars, that will be based on the same design philosophy. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso gets a distinct interior and exterior than other Maruti cars.
S-Presso’s exterior has an upright stance with a high bonnet line and wide haunches accentuating the rugged semblance. The SUV looks are even more enhanced due to chunky C-pillar and a high bonnet line. In terms of dimensions, the S-Presso is slightly larger than the Alto. At the side, the hatchback gets wheel covers, body-coloured door handles and ORVMs. The squared flared wheel arches really give a rugged look to the S-Presso while the C-pillar will remind you of a jacked-up Alto. The wheel arches are filled with 14-inch wheels. The front and rear bumpers come in black and also have a skid plate design.
Maruti S-Presso interior l ooks are funky due to the coloured elements in the cabin such as coloured AC vents, inside of the C pillar and the surround of the SmartPlay audio system. SmartPlay System also offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Like other Maruti cars, the S-Presso’s fabric seats are comfortable and supportive. There is power steering, front power windows and manual air conditioning. The centre stage of the dashboard is taken by an instrument cluster which sits above the SmartPlay system. The AC controls and the steering wheel has been borrowed from the WagonR while ORVMs are only been manually adjustable.
S-Presso specifications only offer a BS-6 compliant 1.0-litre petrol engine. The 3-cylinder engine produces a max power output of 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual and an AMT.
Braking duties are handled by disc brakes in the front and drums at the rear. Maruti Suzuki is also offering many safety features as standards such as driver-side airbag, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminders and speed alert system. Moreover, the rear parking sensors are standard to easily park the car in tight spaces. The additional safety features include passenger-side airbag and Seatbelt Pre-tensioner and Force Limiter.
Maruti S-Presso mileage is around 20kmpl for all the variants. However, mileage depends on the driving habits of the driver.
The S-Presso’s interior storage spaces are centred around the front-seat occupants. There’s a useable shelf above the glove box, two cupholders low down on the centre console, and each of the front doors also features a bottle holder. However, rear-seat occupants get a single bottle holder only. Newspapers and the like can be kept on the parcel tray, but there are no other dedicated storage space at the back.
Cabin Space
Cabin room is an area where the S-Presso really impresses. Maruti’s ‘mini SUV’ might have a relatively small footprint but it’s actually surprisingly roomy on the inside. The interior feels airy, and the high roof and large glass area help with the impression of space. There’s more room between the front two seats than you’d get in hatchbacks of the same price, and remarkably, backseat headroom and knee-room are enough for 6ft-tall occupants to sit in comfort. However, the cabin isn’t wide enough to seat three abreast in comfort.
Front-seat occupants will find their seats comfortable. An added plus point is that the front seats are slightly high-set, giving you a good view out. On the flip side, taller drivers will find themselves sitting a touch too high, with a less-than-ideal view of the road; and expectedly, there’s no seat-height adjust. Larger headrests at both front and back are also missed. The rear seat scores well on comfort and is more supportive than its flat contours would suggest.
Maruti S-Presso price starts from just Rs. 3.69 lakhs which makes it quite attractive. It is aimed towards those who want a small hatchback which is different from other hatchbacks in the market. Following the SUV trend in the market, the S-Presso can make its position quite well in the market.

Stand Out Features
Need Improvement
When buying a new car in general one must look for things like body panels that are out of line, or load bearing beams that seem to have been damaged. The next thing to check whether the paint is original or it has been repainted, a quick check under concealed plastic panels is a great way to check for unmatched paint. Another thing to check for is underbody rust in humid or sea adjacent areas.
A good way to check if the car has been rear-ended is by checking the boot. Flip open the spare wheel cover and remove the wheel completely. If the car was repaired after an accident the floor will have visible signs as the surface wouldn’t be smooth as it would in an undamaged car.
In the end, always remember to check for complete documentation including service records. Also, do check with the insurance company for any past claims, which will make you aware of the accidents the car has been involved in. Last but not the least, get the car checked from a trusted workshop before closing the deal.
