INTRODUCTION
Maruti Suzuki has developed and launched the elegant version of Omni. The Eeco is a comfortable family car. It comes in 3 variants: 5-seater standard. 5-seater AC and 7-seater standard.
Versa was discontinued and a redesigned, low cost version, Eeco was launched to suit the needs of lower Indian middle-class families with 5-seater and 7-seater options. The 7-seater is available in just one basic variant and the 5-seater is available in four variants – basic five-seater, five-seater with A/C and heater, five-seater with heater and CNG, and five-seater with A/C, heater and CNG. Launched in a wide range of six different colours – superior white, bright red, metallic blue blaze, metallic glistening grey, metallic midnight black and metallic silky silver, it is available in petrol and CNG versions for cost-conscious buyers. The CNG 5-Seater AC makes it an ideal choice for large families, car pooling and mini-taxi, and assures comfort and easy drivability. It comes with 2 years or 40,000 km manufacturer warranty.
EXTERIOR
The Eeco features a bold design and stylish body graphics, and also a balanced look. It also features clear headlamps and tail-lamps. On the side, the Eeco features the slide-to-open concept doors. The rear bumper looks like that of Omni and the rear design is simple.
The all-new Eeco was launched with attractive new side body graphics in a refreshed look. The sliding door ensures easy ingress and egress for middle row passengers and is a boon when doors cannot be opened in congested traffic areas.
Eeco looks decent with subtle headlamps, tiny tail-lamps and improved-quality bumpers; however, the puny 155-section tires with 13’’ rims don’t compliment the vehicle.
The 5-seater AC variant comes with powerful air-conditioning, along with a new accessory socket, the interiors are all black and look elegant, integrated headrest for both driver and passenger, an easy-to-read instrument cluster, spacious interiors, flexible and practical seating and space. It has ample of leg/shoulder/head room in all three rows. It also sports a large boot space. But the front seats are not-so-comfortable, as compared to those of Omni.
Eeco’s interiors adorn Maruti’s iconic grey and beige combination with artificial leather upholstery. The high seats with large front glass pane offers supreme front view in heavy traffic. The cabin space is large and offers ample boot space, ideal for tall drivers. Equipped with contemporary new digital instrument panel comprising fuel level, trip meter and odometer ensures easy readability and complete control to the rider. However, the middle and rear seats are devoid of headrests, and make it uncomfortable. It also lacks the basic features, such as music system, power steering and luggage space.
ENGINE, PERFORMANCE,
The features that add to the car?s safety quotient are side impact bars, crumple zones, energy absorbing materials, and driver?s high-seating position provides better visibility of the road. And the Eeco is also End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) compliant and environment friendly.
Maruti Suzuki specs offer a 1.2-litre engine which is compatible with petrol and CNG. The petrol configuration produces a max power of 72bhp @ 6000rpm and a peak torque output of 101Nm @ 3000rpm. The CNG configuration produces 61bhp @ 6000rpm and 85Nm @ 3000rpm of torque.
The power is transferred to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.
BRAKING & HANDLING
Though equipped with manual steering, it still ensures smooth ride but due to short wheelbase, even the slightest jerks are felt in the cabin, especially on the rear seats.
For the first time, a Maruti Suzuki vehicle has been introduced with DSA (Diagonal Shift Assistance) for smoother gear shifting and the front is supported by McPherson strut suspension with dual rate coil springs for superior handling and efficient driving.
SAFETY
The Eeco features a powerful 1.2L BS-IV compliant engine that churns out 74Ps of power and a peak torque of 101Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. It is also equipped with Engine Management System (EMS) which includes High Pressure Fuel Injection System, knock sensors, compression ratios, crack sensors and low friction pistons for a better driving experience. It also features Diagonal Shift Assistance (DSA) for an enhanced driving experience.
The ride quality is also improved with MacPherson strut suspension in the front and a 3-link rear suspension.
Braking duties are handled by discs in the front and drums at the rear. Maruti Suzuki has updated the Eeco with the necessary safety features like driver airbag, ABS with EBD, seat-belts for all seats and seat-belt reminder. There is also a rear parking sensor to park the car easily. Moreover, there is also a speed alert system and side-impact beams to suffer the impact in case of an accident. Maruti Suzuki also offers tubeless tyres which also provides some peace of mind to the driver.
The Eeco is a powerful and elegant version of the Omni and it is reasonably affordable and comfortable. Apart from the not-so-comfortable front seats, this car is the perfect buy for Omni fans.

Need Improvement
When buying a new car in general one must look for things like body panels that are out of line, or load bearing beams that seem to have been damaged. The next thing to check whether the paint is original or it has been repainted, a quick check under concealed plastic panels is a great way to check for unmatched paint. Another thing to check for is underbody rust in humid or sea adjacent areas.
A good way to check if the car has been rear-ended is by checking the boot. Flip open the spare wheel cover and remove the wheel completely. If the car was repaired after an accident the floor will have visible signs as the surface wouldn’t be smooth as it would in an undamaged car.
In the end, always remember to check for complete documentation including service records. Also, do check with the insurance company for any past claims, which will make you aware of the accidents the car has been involved in. Last but not the least, get the car checked from a trusted workshop before closing the deal.
