INTRODUCTION
The Jeep Compass has been in news since the automaker announced its plans of introducing a vehicle built in India for specifically the Indian buyers. Well, now after a wait for over a couple of years, it is finally here. And, we are immensely delighted that FCA India – the parent company – gave it a go ahead and launched it in the Indian market. The Compass is built at the Ranjangaon production facility with around 65 percent local content. The company has presented it in three trims – Sport, Longitude and Limited – with a total of 10 variants, out which 7 are in diesel fuel trim whereas 3 are in petrol guise. The SUV’s exterior styling is based on the elder sibling, the Grand Cherokee, with several sporty elements.
The interior cabin is quite innovative with a plethora of comfort features and storage spaces. Jeep has paid utmost importance to the safety of occupants as it has incorporated as many as a dozen contemporary features. The SUV would also feature a 4X4 drive system, while also getting an automatic transmission.
EXTERIOR
The Jeep Compass is an all-new product with styling cues derived from the Grand Cherokee. The front fascia is a reminiscent of Grand Cherokee’s design language, which flaunts Jeep’s traditional seven-slot grille, albeit with modern updates. There are trapezodial wheel arches, which once again provides a glimpse of the rich heritage of the company products since 1940.
These elements reflect the true Jeep DNA in the SUV, while several other components in form of rear fog lamps, roof rails, bi-xenon headlamps, dual-tone roof, LED tail lamps etc. give it a suave and urbane appearance. The Compass SUV is available in a total of five paint schemes: Vocal White, Hydro Blue, Minimal Grey, Exotica Red and Brilliant Black.
INTERIOR
The interior cabin of Jeep Compass boasts of a Ski Grey leather upholstery. It comes loaded with several exquisite features such as Leather wrapped steering wheel, Dual-zone
automatic temperature control, 3.5-inch graphic information cluster, and a 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
ENGINE & PERFORMANCE
The Jeep Compass is available in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.4L Turbo Multiair engine, which develops maximum power of 159bhp and peak torque of 250Nm. The engine can be availed with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. As for the diesel variants, they get a 2.0L MultiJet Turbo engine which belts out 170bhp at 3750rpm and 350Nm between 1750-2500rpm. The engine is linked to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, while the top-end variant also comes with the 4X4 drive system.
The diesel variants of Jeep Compass deliver a mileage of 17.10kmpl (ARAI Specified), while the 4X4 variant returns 16.30kmpl (ARAI Specified). The final figures are awaited from ARAI for petrol engine.
The Jeep Compass’s 2.0L Multijet diesel engine is a brilliant performer. The power delivery is smooth, while throttle response is equally great. The suspension system is immensely well tuned and absorbs majority of the pot holes, making the ride fairly effortless and comfortable. The electric power steering is worth all the applause as it responds quite well to the driver’s fingers.
BRAKING AND SAFETY
The Jeep Compass gets disc brakes at front as well as rear. The SUV comes with as many as 50 safety and security features in form of Four-channel Anti-lock Brakes, full-function Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, Panic Brake Assist, Hydraulic Boost Failure Compensation, Electronic Roll Mitigation etc. Additionally, the company has incorporated 6 Airbags (side curtains for front and rear-passengers), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and Reverse Parking Camera to further strengthen the safety of the occupants.
CONCLUSION
With an exhilarating introductory price and every possible bells and whistles, the Jeep Compass has exceeded everyone’s expectations and it can be concluded that it is here to stay and rule!

Need Improvement
When buying a new car in general one must look for things like body panels that are out of line, or load bearing beams that seem to have been damaged. The next thing to check whether the paint is original or it has been repainted, a quick check under concealed plastic panels is a great way to check for unmatched paint. Another thing to check for is underbody rust in humid or sea adjacent areas.
A good way to check if the car has been rear-ended is by checking the boot. Flip open the spare wheel cover and remove the wheel completely. If the car was repaired after an accident the floor will have visible signs as the surface wouldn’t be smooth as it would in an undamaged car.
In the end, always remember to check for complete documentation including service records. Also, do check with the insurance company for any past claims, which will make you aware of the accidents the car has been involved in. Last but not the least, get the car checked from a trusted workshop before closing the deal.

Mini Beast Compass
for Drive perfect Jeep
Let me start off by explaining the main reason that made me decide to put my money on the Jeep Compass. Since the car is an American built with Italian engine parts this is some assurance I can personally rely on for a long time when it comes to durability. Performance-wise I would rate a 5/5 as the riding experience the car gives you while driving is truly satisfying and the mileage is also quite decent considering its torque, weight, power and you can go on hard turnings easily without worry as the stability performance is exceptional. The only disappointment in this category is that it lacks cruise control. It is a mini beast and a perfect mid-sized SUV for urban roads any day!

for Drive perfect Jeep
I had to make a choice – MG Hector or Jeep Compass. It was a tough decision to make back then. I researched a lot about both the cars, read reviews, asked owners, did test drive, and finally, I decided to choose Jeep Compass. The driving experience this SUV gives is excellent. Whether it’s on a highway or a bumpy road with zig-zag turns, this car handles them like a piece of cake.
