INTRODUCTION
The Hyundai Grand i10 gets a facelift and a makeover by fresh and new looks and some much needed features. The car has been upgraded not just in terms of looks but the engines have been tweaked too.
Here is all you need to know about the all new Hyundai Grand i10 facelift
EXTERIOR
The changes to the exterior are subtle yet effective. It gets some styling tweaks ? the front bumper is sportier and gets LED with DRLs, the rear bumper now has a slab of additional black cladding along with large round reflectors, and new 14-inch diamond cut alloy wheels that adds to the sporty look of the car.
The front bumper has a Cascade design grille which is wider and the rear looks beefier with the dual-tone bumper. This car has side moldings ? but these are not standard puny strips, but shapely wide black belts that add character to the car along with roof rails.
The overall design makes it evident that the car will slot in between the current Hyundai siblings, i10 and i20.
INTERIOR
Hyundai is known for offering segment-first features and the Grand i10 is no different. The top-end variant – the Asta, gets climate control, rear parking sensors, steering mounted audio controls, driver seat height-adjustment, tilt-steering and integrated music system that has segment first 1 GB internal memory to store songs. And the most interesting addition to the Hyundai Grand i10 is the rear AC vents, which is not only a segment-first feature but something that is not available even on the bigger i20 hatchback.
The interior feels premium, thanks to the quality of materials and the layout. It now features a new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as part of the software suite. This new infotainment system also supports voice commands, once you connect you smartphone to it and also displays the reversing camera visuals.
The seats are very comfortable and supportive, with ample legroom in the rear.
ENGINE, PERFORMANCE & FUEL ECONOMY
Though the petrol engine remains the same, the diesel gets a larger and more powerful engine.
Hyundai has tuned the 1.2L 4-cylinder Kappa petrol motor to improve drivability as well as fuel economy, as a result of which the refined motor delivers 83PS of power and 113Nm of peak torque. The progress through gears is quick. The improved drivability allows you to hold the car in higher gears at city speeds.
The diesel engine is also refined. The diesel trim is now a 1.2L 3-cylinder U2 CRDi engine which delivers power up to 74 bhp and 190 Nm of torque.
Power delivery is in a very linear manner without a noticeable turbo lag. Practically, the performance has been greatly improved.
The new alternate management system and better aerodynamics result in making both – petrol and diesel engines more fuel efficient.
RIDE, HANDLING & SAFETY
Another area where improvements have been made is Ride and Handling.
The suspension of the new Grand i10 has been tweaked a little and is coupled with good NVH characteristics, offering you a well damped and quiet ride. It now sports commendable sound insulation and good bump absorption. The car now is well-controlled and tackles those wavy surfaces with utter confidence. The steering wheel is light enough for city-drives and returns to center quite nicely on the move. The gearbox is light with a short throw which makes shifting gears a joy. Even the clutch is nice and light.
But, where all variants come with a driver airbag, only the variants over Sportz get dual airbags, ABS is only offered in the top end Asta variant and none of the variants get speed-sensitive auto door locks, which is something that the competition from Maruti gets.
CONCLUSION
The Grand i10 was always appealing to the eye and a best-seller. Hyundai has made some changes and improved the overall drivability of the car. But, not many improvements have been made in terms of safety. It is still worth a buy for city driving purpose.

Need Improvement
When buying a new car in general one must look for things like body panels that are out of line, or load bearing beams that seem to have been damaged. The next thing to check whether the paint is original or it has been repainted, a quick check under concealed plastic panels is a great way to check for unmatched paint. Another thing to check for is underbody rust in humid or sea adjacent areas.
A good way to check if the car has been rear-ended is by checking the boot. Flip open the spare wheel cover and remove the wheel completely. If the car was repaired after an accident the floor will have visible signs as the surface wouldn’t be smooth as it would in an undamaged car.
In the end, always remember to check for complete documentation including service records. Also, do check with the insurance company for any past claims, which will make you aware of the accidents the car has been involved in. Last but not the least, get the car checked from a trusted workshop before closing the deal.
