Hyundai Elantra has been liked by the Indian market due to its less price when compared to its rivals in the executive sedan segment. With the launch of the facelifts to the competition, Hyundai also decided to update the Elantra for 2019. Elantra 2019 has been updated with all-new exterior and interior. The executive sedan now looks more striking than before and will definitely turn the heads on the road.

Elantra exteriors look sporty and luxurious as the whole car has been updated with new design elements. At the front, there are sleek automatic headlamps with Daytime-Running-Lamps which houses the LED Quad Projector Headlamps with positioning lamps. Hyundai has also updated the old grille with its signature cascading grille. The foglamps are cleverly placed in a triangular housing in the bumper. The 16-inch alloy wheels,
chrome outside door handles with pocket lights and chrome window beltline enhances the elegance of the Elantra. At the rear, the new set of LED Taillamps which have a multi-dimension look and the reverse light has been placed in the lower half of the bumper.

Hyundai Elantra interior features a load of comfort features and design elements. Hyundai has given a Dual-tone Beige & Black theme with an electric sunroof for an airy feel of the cabin. The leather upholstery, steering wheel, gear knob and aluminium pedals add to the luxurious feel of the cabin. The driver gets Smart Key with Push Button Start, Cruise Control and 10-WAY Adjustable Power seats with Lumbar Support for convenience. The Instrument Cluster with Color Display shows vital information to the driver. For added convenience, the executive sedan gets dual-zone automatic climate control. Ventilated seats, rear AC vents and hands-free smart trunk. The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is loaded with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation and Bluelink app connectivity. This system is powered by Infinity. Infinity is offering front & rear door speakers, front central speaker, front tweeters, sub-woofer, an amplifier for an astounding audio experience

Hyundai Elantra specifications include just one petrol engine which is BS-6 compliant. The 2.0-litre engine is capable of producing a max power output of 152 PS @ 6,200 rpm and a peak torque output of 192Nm @ 4000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. On the automatic variant, you also get different driver modes.

Performance and Handling

Elantra has always been a soft-sprung car for the comfortable ride. The suspension absorbs most of the bumps on the roads. It is only the sharpest of potholes that filter through the cabin. The performance from the engine is linear as the sedan is aimed for chauffeur-driven people and the attention has been given to the comfort of the rear seat.

 Braking and Safety

Hyundai always gives special attention to safety and Elantra is no different. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes in the front and at the rear. The standard safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors. Moreover, Emergency Stop Signal, Speed Alert System and Driver & Passenger Seatbelt Reminder are also standard. On the upper variants, you can get Front Parking Sensors, rear camera, Electronic Stability Control(ESC), Vehicle Stability Management(VSM) and IRVM with Telematics switches.

Hyundai Elantra mileage is rated at 14.6kmpl by the ARAI. However, in the real world use, you can expect 8-12 kmpl as the mileage of a car depends on the driving habits of the driver.

The Elantra sedan has 14.4 cubic feet of space in the trunk. The hatchback has 24.9 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and a total of 55.1 cubic feet with them folded. Those are great totals for a compact car. A hands-free trunk release is available. It works by automatically releasing the latch when the vehicle’s proximity key is stationed near the trunk for a few seconds. However, it does not fully open the trunk.

While the base trim has little to boast about, you can spend a couple of grand extra to get most of the features you want within the Elantra. The aptly named Value Edition gets you heated seats and leather finish on the shifter knob and the steering wheel. The top-of-the-line Limited trim gets the most features with proper leather upholstery for the seats and auto-dimming rearview mirrors. With a considerably small price distribution among the trims, it is easy to pick your favorite.

Its predecessors were highly criticized for the suspension being too soft and a lot of body roll. Hyundai has acted upon the feedback and made the suspension stiffer to give a more sporty touch to the Elantra. The ride quality is not bad, but the independent multi-link rear suspension on the Sport trim lets the difference be known. Although many sedans in this segment, like the Corolla, don’t have any issues with the visibility, it is the Elantra that gives you a lot more view of the outside world.

Hyundai Elantra is aimed towards those who will be mostly chauffeur driven and want a handsome looking executive sedan. With its features and design, the Elantra will definitely attract a lot of attention in the market.

Things to keep in mind before Buying Hyundai Elantra

When buying a new car in general one must look for things like body panels that are out of line, or load bearing beams that seem to have been damaged. The next thing to check whether the paint is original or it has been repainted, a quick check under concealed plastic panels is a great way to check for unmatched paint. Another thing to check for is underbody rust in humid or sea adjacent areas.

A good way to check if the car has been rear-ended is by checking the boot. Flip open the spare wheel cover and remove the wheel completely. If the car was repaired after an accident the floor will have visible signs as the surface wouldn’t be smooth as it would in an undamaged car.

In the end, always remember to check for complete documentation including service records. Also, do check with the insurance company for any past claims, which will make you aware of the accidents the car has been involved in. Last but not the least, get the car checked from a trusted workshop before closing the deal.
