HYUNDAI CRETA
INTRODUCTION
The Creta is Hyundai’s compact SUV. It competes with Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross in the compact SUV segment.
EXTERIOR
Inspired from Hyundai Santa Fe, the Creta looks unique and fresh. The front fascia features a new radiator grille with triple chrome slats, wraparound headlamps with projector LEDs and DRL strips, and vertically placed fog lamps.
The Creta is based on the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy. Both the front pillars are blackened and designed optimally at right slant angle, making it air-flow resistant and get increased fuel efficiency.
The plastic cladding in the lower half gives it that rugged SUV look.
The side profile looks dynamic with the shoulder line running high across till the tail-lamps. The top trim gets 215/60 R17 wheels with diamond-cut alloys, while the other trims come with 205/60 R16 tyres with clean silver alloys.
At the rear, it gets a wide tail gate and split combination tail lamps.
INTERIOR
Hyundai has loaded the Creta with a lot of features. The design is very appealing, good quality materials are used and there is ample space for head/shoulder/leg room. It also features a touchscreen multi-function infotainment system, vertically placed AC vents, power sockets ? both in front and rear ? a lot of storage spaces, static bending lights, shark fin antenna, keys-less entry, electronic ORVMs, and controls-mounted steering wheel. Providing premium feel and decent room, this compact SUV stands out in the competition.
ENGINE, PERFORMANCE, FUEL ECONOMY, RIDE, HANDLING & SAFETY
The Creta is powered by a 1.4L U2 CRDi diesel engine producing a maximum power of 90ps and a peak torque of 220Nm, while the petrol engine is powered by a 1.6L CRDi motor producing 122Ps of power and a peak torque of 151Nm. And a third powertrain option is also available ? Automatic+Diesel- which is powered by a 1.6L CRDi diesel motor and produces a power of 127Ps with peak torque of 259Nm.
The Automatic Diesel transmission is very smooth. The fuel efficiency is also good.
Despite being not-that-heavy a vehicle, there is a very little body roll around the corners. The steering is also well-weighed, giving the pleasure of a comfortable ride, on tarmac roads. Also despite having a ground clearance 210mm, it is not a proper off-roading vehicle, as it does not have separate rear suspensions and no under body metal plate for protection.
For safety, it offers 6 air bags, ABS with EBD, ESC, VSM and hill assist control.
