INTRODUCTION
Aston Martin has earned global acclaim for creating some of the finest and fastest cars ever made on this planet. Being considered as the pinnacle of luxury and opulence, the Warwickshire-based ultra-luxury automaker has driven in India with yet another masterpiece in the form of Aston Martin DB11. It is a replacement to the legendary DB9 model, which has been on sale since 2003.
The DB11 had its world premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March, and received immense appreciation for its cutting-edge exterior styling, avant-garde interior cabin and impeccable performance. Identical to all Aston Martin models, it would be retailed via CBU route in limited numbers through even limited dealer outlets. The Aston Martin DB11 is being built at the company’s sports car manufacturing plant and headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire. The deliveries of the supercar are expected to start by the end of 2016 in India. You can book one if you are ready to look as stylish as the famous British spy 007 and shell out a staggering sum of approx. Rs. 5 Crore on road price.
EXTERIOR
Aston Martin DB11 is leaps and bounds ahead of the DB9 in terms of exterior styling. Taking sophistication to an all-new high, the company designers have worked their heart out to give the supercar a fresh and modern appearance. The DB11 flaunts a front-hinging clamshell bonnet, LED headlamps with integrated daytime running side lights and cornering lights, and the signature Aston Martin front grille. The side profile too is quite dynamic as the roof strakes flow elegantly from the A-pillar to C-pillar. At the rear end, the sloping deck lid effortlessly integrates into the LED Blade tail-lamp cluster.
Also, the deployable spoiler with the Aston Martin AeroBlade system makes it even more desirable and tempting, while it rides on 20-inch 10-spoke silver wheels with diamond-turned finish.
INTERIOR
The interior cabin of Aston Martin is ethereal and one can have as many personalization options as possible. The cabin is finished in Strathmore leather with Alcantara headlining, black leather trim inlay and a carpet. As for the features, the DB11 boasts of a black leather steering wheel, memory front seats with three memory positions, heated front seats, front and rear parking sensors, 360O birds-eye camera,
cruise control and speed limiter, and tyre pressure monitoring, The safety features include an alarm and immobilizer, and remote-control central door locking. The DB11 also houses features like boot release; automatic temperature control with dual-zone climate control; electrically-adjustable front seats; fully-coloured 12-inch TFT LCD display for the all-new instrument cluster; centrally-mounted 8-inch TFT Infotainment system with capacitive switching, iPod and iPhone Integration, and A2DP Bluetooth audio and phone streaming; Wi-Fi Hub; 400-watt Aston Martin Audio System, etc., to name a few!
ENGINE & PERFORMANCE
Aston Martin DB11 is powered by a new in-house designed 5.2 L twin-turbocharged V12 powertrain, which is lighter and stronger than before due to its aluminum structure. It belts out a massive 608 PS at 6500 rpm and 700 Nm between 1500-5000 rpm. It does the 0-100 kmph sprint in merely 3.9 seconds, while clocking a top speed of 322 kmph. This extensive powertrain makes DB11 the most powerful production DB model ever. The engine is linked to an 8-speed automatic ZF transmission, which transmits the power to the rear wheels of the supercar.Well, Aston Martin buyers never think about the fuel efficiency figures, leave alone asking for it. But, for the record, Aston Martin DB11 mileage is somewhere around 8-9 kmpl, despite owning the badge of the most fuel efficient company car. Owing to the variable valve timing, intelligent bank activation and stop-start technology, the mileage appears a bit decent. An individual can even shut down one bank of cylinders under light acceleration to save the fuel and increase the mileage.
BRAKING AND SAFETY
Aston Martin DB11 features ventilated two-piece steel brake discs with six-piston calipers at the front, while ventilated co-cast piece steel brake discs with four-piston calipers are at helm at the rear. Alongside, several highly reliable secondary braking systems are available, such as electric park brake, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Traction Control (TC), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) and Positive Torque Control (PTC) as standard.
CONCLUSION
Like almost every Aston Martin, the DB11 too has all the ingredients of an enormously luxurious and dynamic supercar. Unarguably, it is one of the finest mean machines to be ever built on this planet with a plethora of palatial features to pamper the occupants. If you are a high-adrenaline junkie and own a castle or kingdom, then it is the perfect ride companion for you. Need Improvement
When buying a new car in general one must look for things like body panels that are out of line, or load bearing beams that seem to have been damaged. The next thing to check whether the paint is original or it has been repainted, a quick check under concealed plastic panels is a great way to check for unmatched paint. Another thing to check for is underbody rust in humid or sea adjacent areas.
A good way to check if the car has been rear-ended is by checking the boot. Flip open the spare wheel cover and remove the wheel completely. If the car was repaired after an accident the floor will have visible signs as the surface wouldn’t be smooth as it would in an undamaged car.
In the end, always remember to check for complete documentation including service records. Also, do check with the insurance company for any past claims, which will make you aware of the accidents the car has been involved in. Last but not the least, get the car checked from a trusted workshop before closing the deal.
